Typewritten letter from P. O Dalaigh, County Librarian to the Secretary of Banagher Parish Council informing that it is not possible to open a branch at Banagher 'owing to the scarcity and high cost of books at the present'.

Survey and valuation of the Digby estate completed by Michael Cuddehy, land surveyor, for Lord Digby, on 3 January 1798 and a further valuation on 25 June 1799 listing lands in the barony of Geashill that are out of lease. Townlands surveyed in the initial valuation are listed in Cuddehy's accompanying note as Annaharvey, Ballymooney, Ballyknockan, Ballycue and Ballyduff, although only those of Ballycue and Ballyduff are extant. The valuation is tabular, listing tenants' names, a description of their holdings (e.g. 'moory pasture', 'oat field', 'big fallow field' etc.), a measurement in A.R.P (acres, roods, perches) and a yearly value.

The second list entitled 'Lands in the Barony of Geashill out of lease except the parts disposed of as herein 25 June 1799' contain a list of the townlands Annaharvey, Ballymooney, Ballycue, Bluebell, Ballyduff , Dalgan, Ballydownan, Curragh, Killellery, Ballyavill, Cappincur, Kinockballyboy, Ballinagar, Killleigh, Scrub, Killeenmore, and Killurin. Each description is accompanied by a reference number for a map by Cuddehy which is not extant. There are also comments by Cuddehy on certain plots such as 'Darby Smollen declared tenant' in respect of a plot in Ballydownan and he notes that Cuddehy himself is proposed for a plot in Ballymooney of 149 acres.

Rental ledgers relating to the estate of Col A.C. Wolseley Cox, Clara, King's County. Folios record the rental period, the amount of rent, the poor-rate if chargeable, and the amount paid by cash. The observations column records most of the particulars of lease, and can include details of marriages and deaths of tenants, memorials of leases, and other personal observations on tenants and their character. Map reference numbers are also noted and these may refer to the Map of Clara and Raheen, King's County, estate of Colonel Wolseley Cox (P96) listed below.

Alphabetical surname index at rear of of each volume, although that for Vol.3 is blank. Vol. 3 in general is sparse in details in comparison to the preceding volumes.

Draft letter from Fr. Hurley, St Francis Xavier Church, Gardiner St., Dublin, to Pádraig [?], comprising 'notes from mss Mt Briscoe 1785.' The letter composed in Irish, contains transcripts in English from an 18th century manuscript loaned to Hurley in 1948 from Mrs Briscoe following a lecture to the Kildare Archaeological Society. Hurley notes that the author of the manuscript was a good historian and evidently had a good knowledge of sources available to him at the time of writing. The manuscript concerns the history of the Briscoes, the marriage of John Briscoe to Eleanor Kearney and the construction of Srahkerne Castle (Srah Castle, Tullamore) in 1588.

Minutes recording proceedings of meetings of the Hospital and Homes Committee containing various reports such as Superintendent's Report from the County Home; Superintendent's Report from County Hospital; and Sub-committee reports from Birr Rural District, Edenderry Rural District, Tullamore Rural District, and Roscrea No 2 Rural District on matters relating to dispensaries and hospitals in their respective areas. Also contains lists of 'Letters and Sanctions' from the Ministry of Local Government.

Issues covered by the various reports are concerned with the appointment and salaries of employees; the arrest and detention of members of the committee during the Civil War (see p5, 10 April 1923); building works at dispensaries and hospitals; compensation and pension claims arising from the winding-up of the poor law unions; matters arising with the TB hospital in Birr; commandeering of Dr Woods house at Kinnitty Dispensary by the military (p 43, 8 May 1923); tenders for the supply of provisions to the county home; details of patients at the hospital; proposal from Ministry of Local Government relating to the abolition of Hospital and Homes Committee and Substitution of the County Board of Health therefor under the Local Government (Temporary Provisions) Act, 1923 (p59, 17 May 1923); remaining furniture from Birr Union being taken to Birr Castle on its requisition by Free State Army (pp62-63, 17 May 1923); the condition of Birr workhouse following evacuation by Free State Army (p 64, 2 June 1923); financial issues arising from failure to return 'inmates' in county homes to their counties of origin on amalgamation in 1921; and a proposal by the Ministry of Local Government relating to the appointments of Home Assistance Officers.

Includes report by the Visiting Committee (James O'Connor, J. Scally and Teresa Wyer) on condition of county home (p71, 10 July 1923) and remarks on unfulfilled recommendations from the previous year's report. Also includes extracts from the report of Dr Florence Dillon, medical inspector with the Department of Local Government on the condition of the hospitals at Tullamore, Birr and Edenderry, recommending the closure of the latter (p76, 22 June 1923) .
