Hard bound volume containing the registry of extern patients of the infirmary. Register contains the patient number, patient’s name, parish of residence, time admitted, recommending governor, and description of disease. This is not a complete set of extern patients from 1837-1852. Records the extern patients treated by the institution for the year 1837-1838 and resumes the use of the volume from 1853-1859. The total number of extern patients for each year between 1838-1852 is listed in the register. Registrar notes the end of the infirmary’s treatment of extern patients in 1859.

Patients were recommended for treatment by local landowners and governors of the institution. The most frequent names to appear in the register are Francis Berry, Rev. Edward Berry, and Rev Rafferty. Other names that appear occasionally are A Molloy, Mrs Chevenix, Dawson French, John O’Brien, Sir Ch. Coote, Rev H. King, Rev John Levey, Robert Lauder, Lord Digby, and Lord Rosse.

Documents contained within this file include a copy of an ordnance survey map from 1838 which records the property of the Lefroys at Cronebane. The file also includes a plan of the garden at Cronebane and an inventory of plants

Minute books, accounts ledgers, reports, and ancillary material relating to the creation, administration, and eventual dissolution of Tullamore Union from its establishment in 1839 to the closure of Tullamore Workhouse in August 1921. The main set of records are the minute books of the boards of guardians, comprising 112 volumes from an original set of 128 volumes. Other material is financial in nature, such as the treasurer’s account books and rates returns. No workhouse admission and discharge registers survive, but an important volume entitled Application and Report Book from 1862/1863, provides details of the relief applications for approximately 500 applicants. Other workhouse material is in the form of provisions registers and daybooks, as well as an architectural drawing of alterations to the Infirmary at the workhouse. As the Board of Guardians also oversaw the dispensary districts in the union, there is a set of minute books relating to the five dispensary districts with accompanying district notices in poster form.

The minutes contain the proceedings of the meetings of the Board of Guardians and contain reports from the clerk of the union, the master of the workhouse, the sanitary officers and others.
