Trench family pedigrees and family history

Pedigree and family history papers concerning the Trench family and related families.

Among them is an original bundle containing a Trench pedigree which derives the family from Jean de la Tranchee, who married in 1493. The same original bundle also contains a family tree of Dora Turnor, wife of Benjamin Bloomfield Trench, starting in 1154 and a newspaper obituary of her father, Christopher Turnor of Stoke Rochfort.

The file also contains notes written by Dora Trench for her children which explored Lady Caroline Finch-Hatton's family history.

Photographs of Carriglass Manor and its surrounding estate. The current Carriglass Manor was built by Thomas Lefroy c.1837. The photographs in the file date from the 1920s and were possibly taken by Sheelah and Langlois Massy Lefroy. The majority of the file are photographs of the exterior of Carriglass Manor. The file also contains photographs of Sheelah and Langlois Massy Lefroy enjoying the grounds of Carriglass Manor.

Death of Langlois Lefroy.

Statement of accounts of the estate of Langlois Massy Lefroy deceased from 5 April 1957 to 16 June 1959. In his will dated 24th August 1926 the deceased appointed Sheelah Lefroy as his sole executor and beneficiary.
The statement and an accompanying letter explain how each of Langlois Lefroy's financial assets were dealt with.

Letters from Whitney, Moore, & Keller, solicitors, 34 Kildare Street, Dublin to Sheelah Lefroy in the aftermath of her husband's death.
The majority of the letters within the file deal with the legal ramifications and requirements resulting from Langlois' death. Topics covered include Langlois' will, the transfer and payment of shares, Loughton farm accounts, leasing 56 Grafton Street, Dublin, Sheelah's will, timber moneys and grazing rents owed to Langlois Lefroy and death duty issues such as establishing domicile in England or Ireland.

The majority of this file is made up of wedding of Sheelah Trench's marriage to Langlois Massy Lefroy which took place on 15 October 1924. Photographs of this wedding include photos of the bridge and groom, a portrait of Benjamin Bloomfield Trench and groups of the extended wedding party which was made up of Theodora Trench, Rosemary Lefroy, Diana Broadbent, Phoebe Lefroy, Reggie Chenevix Trench and Stanley Dobson.
The file also contains photographs of Hugh and Helen Lefroy's wedding day, Tony and Judith Hodgson's wedding day and a photograph of an unknown bride.

Notes on Srah Castle and the Briscoes

Draft letter from Fr. Hurley, St Francis Xavier Church, Gardiner St., Dublin, to Pádraig [?], comprising 'notes from mss Mt Briscoe 1785.' The letter composed in Irish, contains transcripts in English from an 18th century manuscript loaned to Hurley in 1948 from Mrs Briscoe following a lecture to the Kildare Archaeological Society. Hurley notes that the author of the manuscript was a good historian and evidently had a good knowledge of sources available to him at the time of writing. The manuscript concerns the history of the Briscoes, the marriage of John Briscoe to Eleanor Kearney and the construction of Srahkerne Castle (Srah Castle, Tullamore) in 1588.
