The Loughton papers are comprised of the records of the successive owners of Loughton, Moneygall, Co. Offaly and of other properties in the surrounding area including one in Co. Tipperary. The families documented within the fonds are the Bloomfields, the Trenches and the Atkinsons. The fonds mainly consists of documents originating from Benjamin Bloomfield Trench, his wife Dora Trench (neé Turnor) and their daughter Theodora Trench. The material dates from 1798 until the 1970s.

Included in the file is a copy of Henry Trench's will and codicil dated 18 January 1877 and codicil dated 29 January 1881.
Also included is a copy of the summarized account of the receipts and payments of the estate from 7 March 1881 to December 31 1884 for executors and trustees of the estate of the late Henry Trench.

The file includes four copies of a leaflet regarding the sale of two horses. The auction took place at Sewell's, Lower Mount Street, Dublin. They were available to be viewed at Cangort, Cloughjordan Co. Tipperary. The file also include a newspaper clipping 21 November 1895 entitled 'Breeding racehorses by the figure system' and a notebook containing an alphabetised list of horses.

This file concerns the business interests of the extended Trench family such as Charles Trench's attempt to purchase the leasers interest of Gortmore, a file relating to Lady Bloomfield's inheritance and Herbert Francis Chenevix Trench and Isabella Catherine Chenevix Trench's marriage settlement.

This file relates to the Atkinson family who took possession of Loughton and its estate in 1975 after the death of Sheelah Lefroy and Theodora Trench. Includes two certificates appointing Richard Frederick Atkinson to military positions in the infantry (1869) and as a Lieutenant in the Sixty-Seventh Regiment of Foot (1871). Also included in the file is a list of Major A.G Atkinson's deeds and papers, taken from Cangort, Shinrone, Co. Offaly and donated to the National Library. Examples include a 'copy of a translation of letters patent to Sir Edward Polton, solicitor-general, of Pallace and other townlands in Queens Co.; the manors of Prassil and Corduff in Co. Dublin; and the late Abbey of Bective in Co. Meath. 1639, Declaration of trust (French to Atkinson) about the purchase of lands in Co. Galway, 1702.

File of records resulting from Benjamin Bloomfield Trench's work with The Johannesburg Consolidated Investment Company.

The file includes a copy of a report written by Benjamin Bloomfield Trench to the 'Chairman & directors, Johannesburg Consolidated Investment company'. Benjamin argues that reason for him writing the report was because 'prior to my departure for England I think its desirable I should report to you my views as to the working of the company's business and its administration and submit for your consideration a few suggestions in connection therewith.' Within the report Benjamin covers topics such as improving profits, future policy, the mining department and representation on the board.

The file also includes documents such as a balance sheet from 30 June 1895 and a letter from William Bailey accountant answering profit and loss enquiries.

In 1890 Dr Bedford Fenwick sued Benjamin Bloomfield Trench for slander.

Dr Fenwick argues that 'In the month of February 1890 the defendant falsely and maliciously spoke and published of the plaintiff the words following "Dr Bedford Fenwick (meaning the plaintiff) is not a man of honor. He has been engaged to a young lady and has broken off the engagement and threatened to publish her letters unless he was paid the sun of £50". meaning whereby that the plaintiff was a dishonest man upon whose word no reliance could be placed and that he had broken his promise to marry a young lady and had feloniously demanded with menaces £50 the monies of the said young lady lady with intent to steal the same from her and had been guilty of an indictable? offence.'
Fenwick then argued that Benjamin Bloomfield Trench spread these rumors with the intent of calling into question Dr Fenwick's ability to act as honorary secretary of the British Nurses Association.
