Tower Houses

Research papers on tower houses in west Co. Offaly within the baronies of Ballyboy, Ballybritt, Ballycowan, Clonisk and Garrycastle.
For each site there is one file of varying contents. The monument type, townland, parish and barony are mentioned as well as the R. M. P. (Record of Monuments and Places) registration number, the County Inventory Registration, the national grid and the ordnance datum.
There are individual field sheets which may contain details to the level of preservation, the nature of surviving structures, walls, earthworks, wooden structures, boundaries and neighbouring waterways or woodlands. Often there is a sketch of the site with interior and exterior elevations as well as site or floor plans. In addition the files include typewritten reports and photographs.

Vocational and Technical Education

Moore was secretary of the King's County Committee of Education. This committee was set up to administer and encourage the provision of technical and vocational education in skills such as cookery, metal work and wood work. Technical classes were established by the provision of capitation grants. These classes would provide young people with vocational and trade skills necessary to gain employment. It was here that young people could be prepared to accredited technical examinations.
