Two copies of a lease of part of the lands of Meelaghans from Edward Earl Digby to Peter Flanagan, farmer, for three lives from 25 March 1797, at a yearly rate of £12-11-6.
Including 'A map of the Meelaghans containing 29.0.36 plantation measure. situate in the Barony of Geashill and King's County. Part of the Estate of The Right Honourable Earl of Digby in tenure of Peter Flanagan in 1793 by Michael Cuddehy', hand coloured, bordering land leased to Robert Egan, Joseph Flanagan, Charles Kavanagh and Edward Smollen.

Eight pages from the Offaly Independant Newspaper. On page five there is a small announcement marked in pen which reads, "Woodfield House - Mrs Lambe has taken up residence in Woodfield House. Her husband, Doctor Lambe, is a distinguished member of the medical profession in England".

Matters referred to include Matters referred to include repairs to tenants’ houses; employer’s liability insurance premiums; cleaning of sewage at Geashill Garda Barrack; repairs to boiler at Clonad Saw Mills; a visit by Lord Digby to Ashford Castle and Birr Castle; the possibility of three phase electricity to Clonad in the future; queries on the rights of Lord Digby to buy land in Ireland at the same rate of stamp duty as an Irish citizen under the Irish Nationality & Citizens Act 1935-1937; and the death of George Muir on 22 September 1950.

Includes letter from Offaly County Council to Goodbody Solicitors regarding the felling of trees on Digby estate to "give clear passage on public roads for buses and in other cases to prevents damage to road by overhanging trees". (24 November 1948).

Includes letter from the Department of Industry & Commerce in relation to an inspection carried out at Clonad Sawmills under the Holiday (Employee) Act 1929, where irregularity was observed in annual leave and that “workers not allowed 7 consecutive whole holiday within their employment years” (18 July 1950). This was responded to by the Estate Agents on 1 August 1950 confirming that this statutory would be observed at the sawmills.

Correspondence dealing with the Jesuits’ purchase of Tullabeg lands in the Land Commission Court and the clearing of all claim for the Young Mortgage. Letters have been folded and their date and contents summarised on the outside of each folded packet. Some folded packets contain more than one letter.

First page extant only: a list of 91 jurors (A-H) of the barony of Ballycowan, with various exemptions noted due to age, profession, ill-health, disability or property ownership.

Volume containing pre-printed questionnaire for manual answers to be entered at each inspection of the Visiting Committee to the Birr workhouse. The questionnaire comprises 16 questions on the condition of both the workhouse premises and the residents of the institution. The Visiting Committee answers either Yes or No to each question and there is space for observations, comments and sign-off by the clerk of the union and the chairperson of the board of guardians. Inspections begin as monthly occurrences in 1896 but are sporadic in frequency by 1920. Following the closure of the Birr workhouse in August 1921, during the 'Amalgamation' of the workhouses in the county, the newly constituted Board of Health opened the County Home in Tullamore workhouse. In 1938, a new visiting committee was formed and Mary K. Dunne, a member of the Visiting Committee in the 1920s, and her colleague, A. F. E. McMichael, seem to have repurposed this volume to record the inspection visits to the county home (in Tullamore). Rather than answer the pre-printed questionnaire template, written reports have been attached to the page, or the observations space is used to write a report, and it is stamped and signed by the Board of Health. The use of this re-purposed volume by the Board of Health lasted until December 1939.
