Irish Grants Committee Correspondence

Copy correspondence between the Irish Grants Committee and Lord Digby regarding his application to the Committee made on 20 December 1926 for the destruction of Geashill Castle and subsequent looting of timber from his woods. In a letter to A&L Goodbody Solicitors, the Irish Grants Committee requested supporting evidence and material in support of each item of the claim (26 April 1927), to which they were sent 4 copies of the bills of quantitates and 4 copies of the original declaration in the case (17 May 1927). A certificate of valuation of the lands of Bawnmore and Dalgan, Geashill was also provided by James Morris, Auctioneer and Valuer in support of the claim, suggesting that the value of this claim should be amended to £952.10 instead of £750. (13 October 1927). The Irish Grants Committee recommended that Lord Digby should be paid a sum of £3000 ex gratia in respect of his claim (23 December 1927). The final amount of the £3000 grant was approved on 15 March 1929.
