Medical Officer's Prescription Book (1919-1922)

Doctor's notes and prescriptions for patients in the county hospital. Some scant references to birth of children in the hospital, deaths and discharges, and Dr Moorhead's recommendations for certain patients. Also records the handing over of the surgical wards to Dr Meagher formerly of the King's County Infirmary, which closed in 1921, during 'Amalgamation'.

Details on the transfer of sums on deposit with the Hibernian Bank, Tullamore, under the King's County Infirmary Improvement Fund to a new Board of Health Hospital Improvement Fund (p43, 24 November 1924); the death of Dr Woods, Medical Officer for Kinnitty Dispensary (p88, 29 January 1925); attempted suicides of 'inmates' of the county home (p94, 19 January 1925); and an order on the re-arrangement of dispensary districts in south Offaly into three dispensary districts. (p153, March 1925)

Also includes a resolution responding to a proposal by Meath County Council to establish a special institution for reception and treatment of children of unmarried mothers and orphans: 'This letter was read at the Meeting and the Commissioner made observation thereon "that we are open to consider any economical scheme" and ordered that more particulars be got regarding this proposal.' (p21, 5 November 1924).

Resolution of thanks to the students of St Stanislaus College, Tullabeg and Clara Dramatic Class for providing entertainments to residents of the County Home. (Jan 1938)

In relation to the proposed sale of the County Infirmary, it was resolved that it could be converted so as to supply offices, boardroom and store-room for the Board of Health and Public Assistance, a poor law dispensary, and the Home Assistance Officers' Depot. Also resolved that Michael Scott, architect of the county hospital, be requested to draw up plans for same. (Feb 1938)

Observations on the proposed site of the ew fever hospital on land opposite the new county hospital on the Arden Road.

Resolution to disallow request from Superioress of Sean Ross Abbey to send to five year old boys to an industrial school and to endeavour to find suitable foster homes instead. (Feb 1938)

Observations by Home Assistance Officers in respect of three Edenderry roadworkers who, following a recent strike, refused to resume work alongside their colleagues and were thus debarred from unemployment assistance leaving their wives and children without subsistence.
