Documents relating to aspects of Moore's life in Banagher. Moore was involved in many committees in the town. These fall into two categories in this collection, namely improvements to the local economy and infrastructure and those that responded to outside events such as the First and Second World Wars. The improvement committees were Banagher Improvement Association/Committee (c.1899-1928), Banagher Fairs and Improvement Committee (1907-1928), Banagher Public Lighting Committee (1907-1912) and Banagher and Lusmagh Farmers Association (1929-1930). The other committees responded to WWI and WWII were The Garrycastle Relief Committee (1914-1915), the War and Pensions Committee (1917-1919) and the Parish Council (1941-c.1945).

Some other organisations mentioned are the Banagher Bicycle Association, the Gaelic League and the Banagher Sacred Heart Sodality which all proved extremely popular.

Ms letter of Joseph Dwyer Hon. Sec. of Portarlington Lighting Committee, to R. H. Moore in response to enquiries regarding the installation of electric lighting in Portarlington. He writes that the firm of Foote & Milne London had offered to install a plant of they could get 800 households to commit to installing lamps. He notes 'I would advise you to adopt our procedure as you are not putting any expense on the rates except the street lighting'(4pp). Two softbound volumes containing manuscript minutes of monthly meetings of Banagher Improvement Association. Minutes relate to matters such as securing sites for a Fair-Green, improvement of footpaths, securing a weighbridge for Banagher, improvement of the rail service to Banagher (30th July 1927) and public lighting (11th November 1927). Relates also to claims for one of the new beet factories by Western and Midland Beet Sugar Factory Promoters Union, and local Relief Work Schemes (11th January 1933).

Typescript letter from Local Government Board of R. H. Moore member of Birr No. 1 Rural District Council stating that a Rural District Council is a local authority under The Electric Lighting Acts and that it is not necessary for them to obtain urban powers for the electric lighting of any part of their district.

Letter from Secretary of Offaly Board of Health to the Secretary of Banagher Parish Council stating that the Electricity Supply Board is proposing to curtail public lighting.

Letter of 26th January 1942 from District Engineer, ESB stating that the restriction of public lighting in Banagher will go ahead 'assuming that Offaly County Board of Health have no objection to this course'.

This scrapbook comprises mostly of pasted in newspaper clippings on a diverse range of topics.
It includes, for example an account of visit to Banagher Boys National School of Rev Dr Monaghan, PP, Dean of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise.
There is a printed petition to Great Southern and Western Railways regarding proposed discontinuance of services from Banagher to Clara, and several published letters relating to promotion of Banagher Great Fair.
Includes also, letter dated 15th May 1906 on the importance of compulsory education and account of the funeral of the Rev. M. J. Moore S. J. in October 1936.
